As the developer who built much of MySLOCounty, I'd like to point out that the issues you bring up, such as having to cycle to the bottom of the page to get to and blocking or ignoring posts are being worked on. They require an update to the software that MySLOCounty runs on, which, in turn, requires support from McClatchy Interactive. That update is tentatively scheduled for next week.

Soon after that update is complete, you will see some improvements to the forums.

I'd like to point out also that I created a topic where users can post suggestions for improvements and report problems with the site, and at this time, no one has posted to it. If you want something added, you have to let me know about it.

No one has posted comments on your "topic" because it's too hard to find! The layout on the old sanluisobispo.com was much easier to use. I could instantly find out if new comments had been posted on threads in which I had interest. Not so here. This is a mess. Looking forward to your upcoming changes...

This really is a poorly planned and implimented "forum"... Is Danny one of the LOCSD "Planners"...???

Click on "new forum topics' in the box on the right, then click on "more" at the bottom, then click on "misc", then click on "feature requests and bug reports". You can see why no-one bothers, justs posts their comments anywhere. I miss the old discussion boards! At least we could put franc4 on ignore...

You can also get to the forums using the main navigation at the top of the page by selecting "Browse - forums".

The idea behind having the different categories of topic is to make it easier to find topics that hold more interest for you. For example, if you want to talk about the Los Osos Sewer, you know to look in "Local talk", but if you want to talk about the Presidential elections, you'd obviously click on "National Talk".

This type of structure works well in forums where many people want to discuss a wide range of topics. Sadly, that doesn't appear to be happening here, so we can take a look at restructuring.

The "ignore" feature is coming. I am hoping to get it all working and tested within the next week. I will keep you updated.

It does appear this forum is symptomatic of the direction the Tribune is going... I used to fold and deliver the Telegram Tribune back in the 50's in my first paying job and have tried to be loyal all these years, but recently I've dropped my subscription and ad's for my business... Now I'm walking away from this dying forum. I suspect the Tribune as a "newspaper" is not far behind and if the admistration of this form of communication is any indication, any on-line form of the Trib will shortly be turning off the servers and closing it's doors....

Franco: Seeing the disaster board charged with financial crimes against the public trust is not my "whole purpose in life". It's just a small goal to see those who appear to have misbehaved with the public checkbook, bankrupted a town they were (foolishly, barely, regrettably) entrusted to guide, paid personal legal indebtedness off with public funds settlements, transferred and borrowed funds to cover their mismanagement, and so forth, held accountable. I have lots bigger purposes in life, although I quite intensely hope for the disaster board to be held accountable and to make personal financial restitution. A few words here and small regular checks to the heroes of Taxpayer Watch to see that court scrutiny is sought after do not make me slavishly involved with no other purpose in life.

LO- good job of taking this forum to task as to quality and functionality. As you point out, it isn't busy, isn't easy to use, doesn't offer features of the old board. I hope the Trib catches up to restore the old features. Good job pointing them out. Being able to click off all the personalities of Franc4 on ignore was a cherished feature, one which I hope they soon bring back.

As to the Trib itself, try not to be too hard on the print news, I hope to see them stay around in this time of falling revenues. I subscribed to the LA Times for 30 years even when it was a healthy booming liberal rag that espoused almost nothing I agreed with, slanted it's news heavily. I like to hear alternative viewpoints and reasoning and also in a paper format I can use in the bird cage of the parrot after I'm done. This is why I follow the current actions of the LOCSD board although it has been wisely stripped of it's authority, I really need to know what the far fringe others are thinking/doing. Printed paper news media are, for me, old familiar friends of a fast fading era.
