What I'm really excited about today: SLO's shout-out on my favorite TV show!

chrissy's picture

Unfortunately for the Chamber of Commerce, my favorite TV show is "Cops," and the shout-out comes from some kid arrested in connection with a stabbing in Las Vegas whose only previous run-in with the law was a DUI in SLO. But it's cool — he's not actually from here. He's from Fresno. Figures, right?

What I'm really excited about today: The race for 3rd District county supervisor!

chrissy's picture

So, are you voting today? In the primary election? You know, the one that isn't important because we got the good stuff out of the way back in February?

I wasn't really planning on voting, because what's the point? There's nothing interesting on the ballot. Just those near-incomprehensible eminent domain initiatives, a few unchallenged legislative and Assembly contests, and a yawn-o-rama county supervisor race. Who cares? Not me!

Something really incredible would have to happen to get me in that voting booth today. Like, a sign from above. Or a sign from Justin Timberlake. Perhaps he'd remix his hit song "My Love" to include the following stanza:

I can see us holding hands
Walking on the beach, our toes in the sand.
But only if you vote June 3rd
A girl with interest in politics is preferred.

Short of something really incredible like that, I just couldn't see myself caring about anything on the ballot. Until yesterday, when ...

SOMETHING REALLY INCREDIBLE HAPPENED!

What I'm really excited about today: Watching TV on the Internet!

OK, so I know I’m a few years late with this one, but ...

How funny is “Arrested Development”?!?!

You got that nervous-nelly Buster with a hook for a hand and “never-nude” Tobias leaving blue handprints everywhere and self-absorbed Lindsay with her “slut” shirt and George-Michael at the banana stand and his cuz-sin Maebe shouting “Marry me!” and Gob doing magic tricks to “The Final Countdown” and how cute is Jason Bateman? It’s, like, the best show ever made! Well, maybe the second best show ever made.

"But you can play, too!"

(If you don't understand why I'm really excited about this, you should probably start spending a lot of time here: www.homestarrunner.com.)

(And thanks to Robin and Danny for the newsalert!)

What I'm really excited about today: fondue!

Have you heard which seminal multiplatinum record-selling, No. 1 hit-making, world-dominating '80s band is reuniting after spending 15 years in near obscurity?

We'll be loving you forever ...

OMG! It's NKOTB!!!

April fool! I'm totally NOT really excited about the state of the U.S. economy. Fooled you!

But you know what I AM really excited about? April Fool's Day!

And I thought of a really good prank, too: Bake a batch of cupcakes and bring them into work for everyone to eat. Only make the cupcakes taste like poop! Could you imagine the looks on people's faces as they bit into an artfully frosted and sprinkled cupcake THAT TASTED LIKE POOP?!

Of course, I wouldn't use real poop. That's gross. I'd use artificial poop flavoring or something. Surely they make that. I mean, I can't be the first person in the world to think of poop-flavored cupcakes. That's comedy gold! If gold were brown and smelly.

What I'm really excited about today: San Luis Obispo's municipal code!

breakin' the law ...

So, the thing is, I drive kinda fast.

I don't necessarily intend to drive fast. I mean, it's not like I jump in my car, stomp on the gas pedal with all my might and holler "Gangway!" out the window as my Honda bursts forth in a flash of dented sheet metal and Japanese ingenuity.

OK, I do that sometimes. But usually? Usually I set out intending to follow California's basic speed law. Which I believe says something to the effect of: "For Pete's sake, would you slow the hell down?"

Somehow, though, I always end up speeding. I know it's illegal and unsafe and wastes gas and all that. But I can't help it, it just happens! And I try not to do it. I really do. Occasionally, as I'm hurtling toward my destination at breakneck speeds, I even think to myself, "I should probably drive slower now." I usually don't. But it's the thought that counts, right?

What I'm really excited about today: Arnold Schwarzenegger!

chrissy's picture

(This is actually what I was excited about yesterday. Just play along.)

So, this morning I checked my work e-mail from home, just like I do every morning, to make sure I'm not, like, fired or anything. Because if I am, no sense in showing up to work! I'm just trying to save everyone some trouble here.

Anyway, I scrolled through my inbox and saw that I didn't have any messages informing me that the meager contents of my cubicle were sitting in a cardboard box on South Higuera Street. What a relief! I did, however, have an e-mail that said California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would be in The Tribune's building at 11 a.m.

Arnold Schwarzenegger? At my office?! I looked at my computer clock — it was 11:34. I was missing it!

What I'm really excited about today: "The Hills"!

chrissy's picture

I didn't think I had anything to be excited about today, but then I remembered that season three of "The Hills" was premiering tonight. At last! Yay!!

For those of you who don't know, "The Hills" is unscripted docudrama that follows a group of socially conscious 20-somethings on a journey of self-discovery as they struggle to balance the whims of youth with the responsibilities of adulthood. In between, they volunteer at soup kitchens, reunite missing children with their parents, and negotiate cease-fires between warring factions in developing countries. It's quite an inspiring show; if you haven't seen it, you should go take a look. You won't be disappointed. It's absolutely exactly as I've described it.

adorable!

So I made these super adorable cupcakes to bring over my parents' house for Easter. They're carrot cake with lemon cream-cheese frosting, and they're really tasty, and how sad are you that you didn't get to eat one?

I got the carrot cake recipe from my favorite cake book ever in the world, "The Whimsical Bakehouse," which you should check out if you've never seen it before and you're into that sort of thing. I left out the raisins, though, because every year that I make it with raisins, my mom says, "Mmm, good cupcakes, honey. They'd be better without raisins ... but they're still good." I can take a hint.
